Winning Burnie Wheel last year was really special, but I've always had my eye on Launceston. The Tassie carnivals will set me up really well for the summer of cycling. I'll still be racing the track through the year, but it won't be my only focus. "I'm excited about racing this year's series, the racing is always hard and intense.
But after winning the Burnie Wheel from scratch last year, Baker has unfinished business on her home-state tracks. "I was always inspired by the likes of Amy Cure and Belinda Goss and getting to race alongside those girls made me really eager to succeed." Both Baker and Manly have signed with Team BikeExchange for the next two seasons, with a focus on the road. "I started cycling thorough a talent identification program, but my first track race was at the carnivals," Baker said. The women's field has more than 30 confirmed including Australian cycling team member Maeve Plouffe plus AusCycling's podium potential riders Sophie Edwards, Chloe Moran, Kristina Clonan and Launceston's Lauren Perry. "I'm also lucky to race in front of a home crowd each year, which is an added bonus." The series regular has a sizeable trophy cabinet including the 2019 team pursuit world title alongside fellow carnivals entrant Alex Manly.
